I'm thinking of taking a week off from anything electronic. Well, electronic and meant for entertainment. I'm not going to revert into a pilgrim or something. I've once again grown increasingly tired of the movies I have, the shows on TV, the internet, my games, and so forth. I'm hoping that time away will give me some kind of renewed enjoyment for these kinds of things once I come off this break-ish thing. Whether or not this happens will remain to be seen.
In cinematic news, I've actually found a movie I'd like to see between now and March (When I'll see Ninja Turtles out of a mixed sense of curiosity and mild interest). The Number 23 marks another foray into a dramatic movie for Jim Carrey and considering I rather liked Eternal Sunshine, I just might enjoy this flick. February 23rd (Gasp, that's right, the 23rd).
Demetri Martin was excellent, in case you were wondering. Tons of new jokes and appearances made by all the old favorites. According to a girl on the student programming board whom I know by proxy of my brother, Demetri hadn't even shown up with his sketchpad and whatnot so they had to run out and get one for him to draw on about 40 minutes before the show. He got props for saying the masturbating bear (Who, incidentally, was played by Jim Carrey once) was his favorite Conan sketch, as well.
Looks like I've been neglecting a certain chronicle of my lack of adventures. Prepare for another underwhelming entry, you fiend.
For people interested in follow-ups to past posts (No one), a more recent Turtles trailer came out....I don't know, two weeks ago, maybe. This one actually has a little plot to it, not to mention the odd ability to make you think villains couldn't be any weirder. You see a certain costumed individual in the trailer, though anyone with any sense whatsoever can pick out that beneath the disguise is one of few very obvious suspects. And anyone with any nerd sense can pick out which one it is exactly. It shows you who it is, though. But I like figuring those kinds of things out before they happen. Mostly because I have nothing better to do with my time.
In other things-to-look-forward-to news, Lost is back in a regular, weekly schedule next Wednesday (a week from tomorrow). The first week will focus on Juliet which doesn't really tickle anyone's fancy, but the following week will be Desmond-centric and the week after will be a Jack episode wherein we finally see things regarding his tattoos and his trip to Bangkok (allegedly). So those should be good.
Tomorrow I'm going to see Demetri Martin's stand-up at UCO along with a few compatriots. If you're into taking my suggestions, you should have a listening experience with his These Are Jokes album.
When they first announced the CGI Ninja Turtles movie, I was definitely put off by the idea. After seeing the initial teaser trailer, I thought that maybe I could adjust to the appearance much like I did for Wind Waker. And I think I have. Three months before its release, putting me ahead of schedule. However, after the latest batch of pictures came out, you can clearly see they put all of their artistic work in the turtles and cityscapes. The people look like shit.
Thank Christ I'm not nerdy enough to freak out about this. I mean, seriously, look at Leonardo being his tool self, then look at this chef who will be voiced by Kevin Smith and tell me you're not having cranial ticks from just thinking about the comparison of characters. These people look like they're on Goddamn Nickelodeon.
Edit Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. Wow, that's a winner of a title.
If a class finishes in November, a full month before all other classes, wouldn't you expect its postings of final grades to be on time? That's just dodgy if they're not. And they aren't, so it is.
As anyone with a grade school level of understanding of calendar math can see, it's been over a month since my last post. You can interpret that as laziness on my part or as a sad commentary on my eventless life. Your choice. But it's not my job to entertain you. The closest thing you could say was my job would be the relating of things that could entertain you. Unfortunately, this year's end has been pretty lacking in anything noteworthy. With the exception of the Good Shepherd flick coming out on the 22nd, my year of entertainment ended God knows how long ago.
Although my Kung Fu grip on upcoming movies is ridiculously limp* as of late, I'm fairly certain that nothing is going to captivate my nerdly brain until late March when certain heroes in a half shell hit the scene. However mixed my feelings may be on that front. Fortunately, the Summer season should sate me once again with littering titles such as Spiderman 3, Shrek the Third, the final Pirates flick, Ocean's Thirteen, Transformers, Harry Potter, and The Bourne Ultimatum. However, there's nothing between now and May, Turtles aside, so that'll be a prime time for you to get your cinematic hermit freak on.
*Despite the awesome clarity of the sentence, I still expect at least a few perverted minds to come up with their own mental imagery upon reading the phrase ridiculously limp. If not just a run-of-the-mill impotency joke.
